The Albemarle County Department of Building Services is actively recruiting a HVAC Mechanic to join our team. The successful candidate will install, maintain, and repair heating and air conditioning equipment for assigned school buildings.

Essential functions and responsibilities of HVAC Mechanic include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

Qualifications: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Journeyman Licensure or higher or a minimum of 4 years of experience HVAC/Refrigeration or commercial HVAC/Refrigeration maintenance and repair. Position requires considerable knowledge of the HVAC field, particularly with heating and air conditioning systems, and refrigeration systems. Must have or complete EPA certification for refrigerant transition and recovery and maintain records. Position requires the ability to read building plans, wiring diagrams, electrical, and automation schematics. Basic computer and keyboarding skills will be required, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with others. The position will troubleshoot problems, assume responsibility for the installation and maintenance of assigned equipment, all while working independently, without direct supervision. Must have a Valid VA Driver’s License.

 

This position is designated as "Essential Personnel", which requires that employees report to their job site during emergency situations, such as snow, inclement weather, or other emergency situations. May be on call 24 hours, 7 days a week for emergency situations, including weather and other building emergencies.

 

Physical Conditions & Nature of Work Contacts:  Regular contacts made with individuals from: (a) other internal organization units; (b) outside organizations; and the general public for purposes of exchanging factual information which requires some judgment or interpretation in order to be responsive to questions or applicable to a specific situation. Communication is usually cooperative in nature, with most conflicts resolved by higher authority. Performance of more strenuous physical tasks, such as: walking over rough or uneven surfaces; (b) bending or stooping; working in confined spaces; or (d) lifting or carrying items weighing 20-50 pounds, with occasional lifting of items weighing over 100 pounds. Complex operation of gasoline, diesel or electric-powered machinery or shop equipment, requiring the manipulation of multiple controls or fine adjustments. Exposure to potentially disabling/nondisabling injuries or illnesses. May be required to operate mowing equipment, including gas and diesel mowers, tractors, weed eaters, chain saws and snow moving equipment.

 

Salary: The salary range for this position is $20.14 - $26.00 per hour. Starting offer is based on applicable education beyond minimum, experience and internal equity. The position also provides excellent benefits including 12 paid holidays, paid vacation and sick leave, health insurance options with employer contribution, employer-paid life insurance, VRS retirement, and continuing education/training opportunities. This is a full time, FLSA Non-exempt position. Internal candidates will receive pay adjustments in accordance with ACPS Salary Administraion Policy, GCBA.
