The EDEP Specialty Teacher provides students in the After-School program with a safe environment and a quality enrichment program and provides educational leadership in specific content areas for students and program staff consistent with Division goals. Essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

 

  • Provides an effective program of instruction to include: instructional skills; knowledge of child growth and development; knowledge and use of materials and resources in conjunction with the adopted curriculum and consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided;
  • Demonstrates mastery of specific content area;
  • Prepares and implements lesson plans; shows evidence of preparation upon request of the immediate supervisor;
  • Coordinates activities and special events;
  • Meets and instructs the students(s) in the locations and at the time designated; exhibits dependable work habits;
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative professional relations with ASEP staff and school staff; exhibits positive public relations;
  • Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, and colleagues concerning both the academic and behavioral progress of all students;
  • Maintains and upholds school and county policies and procedures; assists in upholding and enforcing school/EDEP rules and administrative regulations;
  • Provides care for students in ALL EDEP venues (Student Holiday, Spring Break and Inclement Weather programs);
  • Participates in EDEP programs (After School, Student Holiday, Spring Break and Inclement Weather programs) as assigned;
  • Maintains a safe work environment; takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities;
  • Develops and maintains the physical environment of the classroom/designated space to be conducive to effective learning within the limits of resources provided by the system;
  • Encourages students to set and maintain high standards of behavior;
  • Attends required and assigned training sessions;
  • Supports and assists other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods; may provide professional development to staff as assigned;
  • Assists in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials;
  • Attends and participates in department meetings;
  • Performs related duties as assigned by the administration in accordance with policies and practices.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to communicate and develop effective working relationships with students, parents, and staff; Basic First Aid and CPR certified; knowledge of child development and stages of growth; lesson planning ability; strong organizational skills; behavior management skills; supervisory skills; punctuality and dependability; excellent oral and written communication skills; knowledge of student instruction and management practices, procedures and techniques; knowledge of school system rules and procedures for classroom, halls, cafeteria, library and transportation; knowledge of subject areas to which assigned; ability to guide, direct, teach, and control students; ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions; ability to type basic records; ability to operate audio-visual equipment.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

1. Must hold or be eligible for a teaching certificate, or if not, then 2. Possess a baccalaureate degree in an applicable content field (Math, Art, Science, Social Studies, Physical Education, Theatre, World Languages, Music) and additionally have a minimum of three years of programmatic experience working with children in grades K-5. Training in Basic First Aid/CPR.


PHYSICAL CONDITIONS AND NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS:

Duties performed typically in school settings to include the cafeteria, gym, recreational areas and other assigned spaces; Frequent walking, standing, lifting up to 40 pounds, and other limited physical activities are required; Occasional travel with students on field trips; Frequent movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required; Occasional lifting of equipment such as audio-visuals weighing up to 50 pounds may be required; Daily personal and close contact with children and ASEP staff members required to provide an effective learning environment; Regular contact with staff members and parents; Occasional contact with medical professionals.
