EDEP Specialty Teacher
Extended Day Enrichment Program (After School Program)

Part-Time, 10 Months
Non-Exempt, Pay Grade 11

 

The EDEP Specialty Teacher provides students in the After-School program with a safe environment and a quality enrichment program. The Specialty Teacher provides educational leadership in specific content areas for students and program staff consistent with Division goals.  Essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

  • Maintains a safe work environment; takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities;
  • Develops and maintains the physical environment of the classroom/designated space to be conducive to effective learning within the limits of resources provided by the system;
  • Encourages students to set and maintain high standards of behavior;
  • Provides an effective program of instruction to include: instructional skills; knowledge of child growth and development; knowledge and use of materials and resources in conjunction with the adopted curriculum and consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided;
  • Demonstrates mastery of specific content area;
  • Prepares and implements lesson plans; shows evidence of preparation upon request of the immediate supervisor;
  • Coordinates activities and special events;
  • Meets and instructs the students(s) in the locations and at the time designated; exhibits dependable work habits;
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative professional relations with EDEP staff and school staff; exhibits positive public relations;
  • Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, and colleagues concerning both the academic and behavioral progress of all students

Offers of employment will be to work with the Extended Day Enrichment Program (EDEP). 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  1. Must hold or be eligible for a teaching certificate, or 2. Possess a baccalaureate degree in an applicable content field (Math, Art, Science, Social Studies, Physical Education, Theatre, World Languages, Music) and have a minimum of three years of programmatic experience working with children in grades K-5. Training in Basic First Aid/CPR. 

Ability to communicate and develop effective working relationships with students, parents, and staff; Basic First Aid and CPR certified; knowledge of child development and stages of growth; lesson planning ability; strong organizational skills; behavior management skills; supervisory skills; punctuality and dependability; excellent oral and written communication skills; knowledge of student instruction and management practices, procedures and techniques; knowledge of school system rules and procedures for classroom, halls, cafeteria, library and transportation; knowledge of subject areas to which assigned; ability to guide, direct, teach, and control students; ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions; ability to type basic records; ability to operate audio-visual equipment.

 

PHYSICAL CONDITION & NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS:   Duties performed typically in school settings to include the cafeteria, gym, recreational areas and other assigned spaces; Frequent walking, standing, lifting up to 40 pounds, and other limited physical activities are required; Occasional travel with students on field trips; Frequent movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required; Occasional lifting of equipment such as audio-visuals weighing up to 50 pounds may be required; Daily personal and close contact with children and EDEP staff members required to provide an effective learning environment; Regular contact with staff members and parents; Occasional contact with medical professionals.

 

SALARY:   $16.46 - $19.75/hourly, based on experience, qualifications and internal equity; plus shift differential!
