HEAD LIFEGUARD(S)

The Head Lifeguard(s) assists the Program Supervisor and Beach Manager in supervising the lifeguard staff, cashiers and the operation of the swimming area and related facilities, maintenance of the beach, bathhouse, comfort stations, and picnic shelters.
Essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:
- supervises the work of a lifeguard staff;
- supervises and maintains the safe use of bathing, boating and beach areas;
- aids, performs and directs necessary water rescue maneuvers and first aid;
- directs and performs beach, bathhouse, comfort station and picnic shelter maintenance;
- supervises and records collection of fees;
- records timesheets, facility reports, accident, incident, and rescue reports;
- performs lifeguard evaluation and maintains other records as required;
- directs and records in-service drills;
- performs and/or assists in park maintenance.
QUALIFICATIONS: Must possess a valid Red Cross or equivalent lifeguard certificate; Red Cross First Aid and CPR; must be in good physical condition; must be able to work the entire season; must possess the ability to follow oral and/or written instructions. Current instructor certification in Lifeguard Training and/or Water Safety is highly desirable. Must have two years’ experience at the Lifeguard level. Must be able to deal effectively with employees and the public; be able to handle stressful situations.
PHYSICAL CONDITIONS AND NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS: This position requires exposure to the sun for extended periods; involves frequent walking or standing; ability to swim long distances (1 mile) and short distances rapidly. Performance of more strenuous physical tasks to perform rescues, such as: running over rough or uneven surfaces; bending or stooping; swimming and diving underwater for extended periods; lifting or carrying persons weighing 100 pounds, and being exposed to potentially life threatening situations on a recurring basis. Daily contact with general public to provide information and enforces safety rules and perform rescues.
SALARY: $16.00 hour
LENGTH OF EMPLOYMENT: Memorial Day Weekend - Labor Day Weekend
