The Data Analyst & Reporting Specialist assists division staff in the use of data to drive decision-making and meet local, state and federal reporting requirements.  Supports School Board priorities and initiatives by leveraging existing and new data sources to build reports and measure progress towards goals.  Streamlines existing data collection and reporting processes and helps develop new processes when needed. Utilizes strong analytical abilities and excellent communication skills to gather requirements, identify data sources and provide timely, meaningful and accurate reports in a variety of formats.  Serves as the primary point of contact and training resource for the division’s business intelligence (BI) tools.  Essential functions include, and are not limited to the following: 

  • Maintains a deep knowledge of the data structures that exist in the different data sources available throughout the organization.
  • Works to define and develop new data sources when needed.
  • Defines and develops standard reports for key data metrics.
  • Develops custom and ad-hoc reports based on requirements provided by division and school-based administrators.
  • Develops reports to show progress towards division, school or program objectives.
  • Uses effective communication strategies to identify report requirements and organizational needs.
  • Participates in the preparation of written reports and oral presentations that summarize the analysis of data, interprets the findings, and provides conclusions and recommendations.
  • Develops and maintains standards for data reporting that allow for a consistent approach to data reporting across the division.
  • Works collaboratively with the Database Programmer Analyst to populate and expand the division’s data warehouse.
  • Works collaboratively with the Fiscal Services Department to automate and streamline financial reporting.
  • Works collaboratively with the Office of Strategic Planning, Accountability & Research, and Program Evaluation to identify and produce reports.
  • Works collaboratively with school administrators to understand published data and identify additional reporting needs.
  • Builds relationships, and communicates effectively, with key stakeholders throughout the organization.
  • Assists with designing, coordinating, and implementing BI tool output design and delivery.
  • Provides training to appropriate staff in BI tool usage and report development.
  • Creates and maintains thorough system, process, and end-user documentation.
  • Manages multiple assignments and projects simultaneously and meets tight deadlines.
  • Determines and shifts priorities as needed.
  • Maintains confidentiality of sensitive data.
  • Maintain data security and integrity using industry standards and best practices.
  • Assists other division staff with ensuring data accuracy.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  Bachelor’s degree and three years of experience in data extraction management, analysis, and reporting, preferably in the field of education. Master’s Degree in data science, education, social sciences, statistics, or related field preferred. A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

 

Ability to think critically and synthesize large amounts of data and communicate ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing is required.  Strong customer service skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of individuals is required.  Proficiency in the use of a variety of data applications such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, SPSS, and BI tools is required.  Proficiency in using the Microsoft Office or Google suite of applications is required.  Ability to work both individually and as part of a team is required.  Ability to be self-directed when managing a project is essential.  A thorough understanding of relational database design is essential.  Experience designing and writing complex SQL queries for large relational databases is highly desirable, as is project management experience or certification; experience working in a K-12 education environment; an understanding of K-12 data structures; and knowledge of basic accounting principles and public sector budgeting.

 

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS AND NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS:  Work is typically performed in an office, computer room, computer classroom laboratory, and/or conference rooms. Continuous ability to communicate by phone or email is necessary. Regular use of computers and input devices is necessary. Occasional handling of small fragile computer components and large components weighing in excess of 50 pounds is required. Occasional operation of county vehicles to travel to locations throughout the county is required. Regular contact is made with internal departments and senior persons at all levels of county government and the school division. Contacts are usually cooperative, however, require tact and diplomacy. External contacts with vendor companies and other information services agencies are necessary. Occasional need to perform urgent tasks to meet organizational deadlines. Occasional work activity after normal duty hours and occasional weekend duties are necessary.

 

SALARY:  Hiring Range $52,348 - $62,818 annual equivalent, based on qualifications and internal equity
               Internal candidates will receive pay adjustments in accordance with County School Board Policy, GCBA-R.
