OVERVIEW: This position, which may also be considered as an internship, provides opportunities to gain knowledge associated with many facets of local government where Records Management (RM) best practices apply. Access and training will be provided on software tools and applications that will enable one to contribute to the Information Services Division’s work program and towards meeting customers’ needs and expectations. Assisting with the digitization and management of physical files would be the primary responsibility. Experience gained will benefit those in search of a career in Records Management and/or other related positions where experience with RM skills are recommended in a High-Performance Organization.

 

DESCRIPTION:

Assists CDD Staff in a variety of projects related to the digitization and management of physical files, as well as contributions to the fulfillment of Virginia Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Requests. The primary responsibilities of the position include:

·         Using RM scanning software (Laserfiche) and database tools to determine and categorize documents as they are entered in CDD’s Digital Records Management Repository

·         Assisting the Records Management Officer and the Records & Imaging Technician with quality control in the Repository, as well as physical file relocation

·         Assisting the Records Management Officer with FOIA Requests

·         Collaborating with CDD Staff in Data Management, Intake, GIS, Planning, Zoning & Engineering for Records Management best practices

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Prefer candidates with a Records Management, Library Sciences or related background with an interest in local government and file management. Experience with the use of computer applications (word processing, spreadsheet, database management). Knowledge of/experience with Laserfiche, large-format scanning and Library of Virginia Records Management Standards a plus.

 

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS AND NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS: Performance of more strenuous physical tasks such as walking, bending or stooping, working in confined spaces or lifting or carrying items weighting 30 pounds.

 

SALARY: $12.00 - $14.00 / Per Hour, depending on relative education, experience and internal equity
