The Custodial Supervisor I  position is a working supervisor position and trains, motivates, counsels, supervises and evaluates subordinates in addition to managing their own tasks and work responsibilities. Performs inspections and insures corrections. Maintains a safe, clean and positive environment for all occupants. Shift work may be required.Essential functions include, and are not limited to the following:

  • Responsible for the efficient operation of the facility including managing the central storage facility, opening and closing the building, and troubleshooting emergencies as they occur;
  • Inspects assigned areas for cleanliness and safety and manages all aspects of the process including, feedback, correction, conflict management, and overall performance evaluation of subordinates;
  • Manages the custodial staff schedule and building usage;
  • Coordinates and assigns routine work assignments and project work;
  • Manages inventory supplies, insures acquisition, and coordinates delivery throughout the schools;
  • Manages preventative maintenance schedules to ensure the safety of the workers and the students;
  • Trains custodial staff on proper procedures, chemical usage, equipment usage, and safety;
  • Coordinates, tracks, and manages all schedule changes and updates as they pertain to internal and external events (e.g facility rentals, spring concerts, athletic events etc.);
  • Completes daily custodial tasks as they pertain to the job (E.g dust, mop, vacuum, trash removal, etc.);
  • Extensive experience using various pieces of power equipment (E.g. pressure washers, scrubbers, buffers, drills and other specialty equipment);
  • Responsive to teacher and administrator requests, emergencies, and personnel requests to ensure cleanliness, safety and the efficiency of the work unit;
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management;
  • This position is designated as Essential Personnel, which requires that the employees report to their job site during emergencies, such as snow, inclement weather, or other emergencies. My be on call 24 hours, 7 days a week for emergency situations, including weather and other building emergencies.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  Candidate should be a high school graduate or have comparable training and a minimum of four years of related work experience. A minimum of one year's supervisory experience is required. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: A valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver’s license, a criminal background check, and a negative tuberculin test are required. Must be able to read and follow instructions in English. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Negative drug screening and tuberculin test are required. Possession of a valid drivers license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Satisfactory health condition as certified by competent medical authority.

 

 Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment to include the operation of heavy commercial cleaning equipment such as high-powered buffers and vacuums. Considerable knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service. This includes setting and meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions, and safety regulations related to equipment operation, hazardous materials, traffic patterns and conditions, and other work related precautions. Develops and maintains cooperative and professional relationships with employees and the public. Effectively responds to routine inquiries and disputes. Plans and organizes daily work routine. Estimates expected time of completion of elements of work and establishes a personal schedule accordingly. Implements work activities in accordance with priorities and estimated schedules. Provides a broad range of supervisory responsibilities over others. Ability to use equipment and cleaning materials efficiently and economically. Ability to communicate complex ideas and proposals effectively so others will understand. Excellent ability to listen and understand information and ideas presented verbally or in writing. Ability to use basic math skills to compute cleaning solution dilutions. Ability to use logic and reasoning to understand, analyze, and evaluate situations and exercise good judgment to make appropriate decisions.

 

 

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS AND NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS:  Performance of more strenuous physical tasks, such as: walking over rough or uneven surfaces; (b) bending or stooping; working in confined spaces; or (c) lifting or carrying items weighing 20-50 pounds, with occasional lifting of times weighing over 75 pounds. Occasionally exposed to inclement weather and potentially hazardous substances. Regular contacts made with individuals from: (a) other internal organization units; (b) outside organizations and the general public for purposes of exchanging factual information, which requires some judgement or interpretation, in order to be responsive to questions or applicable to a specific situation. Communication is usually cooperative in nature, with some conflicts resolved by higher authority.

 

SALARY:   Hiring Range: $15.22 - $18.27 per hour/ based on qualifications and internal equity.
                 Internal candidates will receive pay adjustments in accordance with County School Board Policy, GCBA-R.
