The Temporary Wellness Specialist performs complex and specialized technical work for human resource program areas. This includes administrative work in planning and implementing the Albemarle County/Schools Wellness Program in order to support a culture of health and wellness for all employees. Improves employee wellness through health promotion, wellness programming, education and activities. Work is performed with a considerable degree of individual responsibility and independent judgment.  Essential functions include and are not limited to the following:

 

  • Coordinates many aspects of wellness program, including coordination of events and activities to improve / protect employee health and wellness;
  • Plans and conducts prevention and health promotion strategies to optimize health and prevention of injuries and illnesses;
  • Assists with disease management program planning and implementation;
  • Uses and analyzes benefit and other health data to assess, target and develop health promotion program needs for the employee population;
  • Coordinates with vendor contracts to ensure quality of health promotion programs;
  • Assists departments / schools on health and wellness program development such as in-house grant programs;
  • Coordinates the County and School Wellness Team;
  • Counsels, advises and provides assistance to supervisors, employees, and family members on health and wellness benefits-related matters;
  • Develops communication tools, to include: websites, brochures, fact sheets and other materials;
  • Answers employee questions regarding interpretation of wellness policies; Assists employees with problem resolution;
  • Trains employees, office staff and management on procedures and policies;
  • Identifies and keeps management appraised of emergent issues and application of federal and state requirements;
  • Processes all necessary paperwork;
  • Researches and prepares reports for management on issues as assigned;
  • Keeps abreast of changes that impact plan administration; may be responsible for claims assistance and review and coordination with carriers and providers;
  • Handles sensitive and highly personal employee information;
  • Performs related duties as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and at least three years of experience engaged in coordination of wellness programs; Medical training / certification (such as RN, EMT, or ACSM) preferred.

 

Knowledge of wellness and health promotion; comprehensive knowledge of business English and spelling; ability to establish harmonious working relationships with others; ability to work under pressure; ability to organize and perform work independently; ability to deal effectively with other employees and the general public, ability to manage multiple services/projects. Current knowledge of laws and regulations governing medical care such as HIPAA, ACA, etc. Working knowledge of applications related to spreadsheets, word processing, database management and statistical analysis programs; budget administration, communication skills and techniques required for gathering, evaluating and transmitting information; preparation and presentation of oral or written reports and research projects relating to wellness programs; computer-based software, programs and equipment required to administer Countywide wellness programs.

Salary: $10 -$13 per hour, based on qualifications and experience
