PALS Instructor/Testing Coordinator

2018-19 School Year

2.5 hours a day

Crozet Elementary

 

Position provides assistance to teachers in the daily instruction of students. The work involves providing literacy practice and support to students in grades K-3.

 

Essential Duties

  1. Provides literacy practice and support to K-3 students in collaboration with classroom teacher and reading specialist.
  2. Becomes knowledgeable of teaching methods and materials to support early literacy development.
  3. Prepares instructional materials; performs designated literacy lessons with students; uses supplementary learning materials as needed.
  4. Observes and reports students' progress to teachers and reading specialist.
  5. Follows instructional schedule developed by personnel working with assistant.
  6. Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Candidates must hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching certificate with an endorsement in Elementary Education covering Grades K-3 and/or Reading Specialist.


PHYSICAL CONDITIONS AND NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS:

Duties performed typically in school settings to include: classroom; gym, cafeteria; auditorium; and recreational areas. Frequent walking, standing, light lifting, up to 40 pounds, and other limited physical activities are required. Occasional travel with students on field trips may be necessary. Occasional movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required. Regular Instruction to special needs children may be necessary. Occasional lifting of equipment such as audio-visuals weighing up to 50 pounds may be required. Daily personal and close contact with children to provide classroom management and learning environment support is required. Regular contact with other staff members, and parents is required. Occasional contact with medical professionals may be required. Frequent contact with parents by phone and in person is necessary.


EVALUATION:

Performance will be evaluated on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the above responsibilities.

 

Testing Coordinator

 

The Testing Coordinator oversees the implementation of Virginia State Assessment Program and other
testing programs at the building level.
Responsibilities:
•Attends division-level meetings concerning the testing program and disseminates relevant information
to building staff and administration.
•Schedules testing dates and times and notifies appropriate staff. Finds rooms and proctors as needed and troubleshoots problems associated with testing schedule.
•Determines which students need to be tested and sets schedule accordingly.
•Coordinates test preparation activities with teachers and students.
•Insures that special accommodations are followed as required for special education students.
•Maintains testing security by keeping track of forms, test booklets, and answer sheets; follows state
guidelines for distributing and packaging all materials.
•Organizes volunteers and staff to assist with testing, as needed.
•Receives results and notifies appropriate people of test scores; assists parents with the interpretation
of test results, as requested.
•Schedules and administers make-up testing.

Education and Experience:

Candidates must hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching certificate with endorsement(s) covering grades K-2. Reading/Math Specialist preferred.  Elementary teaching experience required.
