 Update- 5/30/18: This is a dual part-time job position (.50 teacher/.50 classified chorus accompanist, pay grade 6)

GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:

Performs responsible skilled work assisting in student management and instructional tasks; does related work as required.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Assists choral director with rehearsals by playing individual and combined parts on piano;
  • Acts as accompanist for the musical score;
  • Provides support for objectives determined by the choral director in the form of technical expertise on piano;
  • Assists the director in special activities such as field trips;
  • Rehearses required music and prepares it to a level usable by the director and the various classes;
  • Provides suggestions and guidance to the director when necessary and appropriate;
  • Acts as a resource for additional interpretation of material to be performed or rehearsed;
  • Maintains music portfolio;
  • Assists in enforcement of rules and regulations;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Thorough knowledge and skill of the piano; thorough knowledge of choral music, popular music and traditional music, skill as an accompanist; ability to communicate with students and faculty; ability to plan effectively and carry out plans.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma/GED and at least two years of experience giving piano lessons, preferably at the high school level; licensed educator preferred; performing experience preferred.


PHYSICAL CONDITIONS AND NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS:

Duties performed typically in school settings to include: classroom, gym, cafeteria, auditorium and recreational areas. Frequent walking, standing, light lifting up to 40 pounds, and other limited physical activities are required. Occasional travel with students on field trips may be necessary. Occasional movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required. Occasional lifting of equipment such as audio-visuals weighing up to 50 pounds may be required. Occasional attendance at parent conferences, building-level meetings and division-wide meetings and training activities beyond normal assigned hours is necessary. Daily person close contact with students to provide classroom management and learning environment support is required. Regular contact with other staff members and parents may be required. Contacts with community and division-level staff may require considerable tact and diplomacy.


EVALUATION:

Performance will be evaluated on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the above responsibilities.
