GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:

 

Under the administrative direction of the Assistant Superintendent, the Director of Professional Learning is responsible for working with constituent groups to identify, prioritize, and implement staff development needs. The Director oversees and coordinates the professional development program for ACPS and assess its efficacy on a continuous basis. The position serves as a resource to the school division’s organizational development initiatives by developing training and support programs for the Division’s employees, conducting ongoing needs assessments, and evaluating the success, or lack thereof, of all Division professional learning/development endeavors. The position will be required to work successfully with internal employees and outside vendors to translate organizational and departmental necessity into professional learning initiatives; oversee the professional development budget and produce financial reports as designated by division, state and federal entities; successfully manage subordinate staff and prioritize multiples projects and initiatives; and maintain currency in the field.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

· Collaborates in setting professional development priorities and in designing and

directing professional development programs for all Division employees;

· Develops a comprehensive and coordinated professional development program for all

Division employees

· Consults with professional development committees and different schools and

departments to identify professional development needs;

· Designs pragmatic and impactful strategies to address key organizational

development needs. Designing, implementing, and maintaining professional

development programs;

· Develops a comprehensive communications plan to engage school division

constituencies in professional development activities;

· Develops new hire engagement through orientation and long-term on-boarding

programs, increasing the results of professional development initiatives to employee

productivity;

· Researches, coordinates, develops and designs instructor led and virtual learning

offerings;

· Maintains currency in the field through research and participation in regional, state

and national professional development activities

· Evaluates the impact of professional development programs. Modifies and

recommends appropriate changes to existing training programs;

· Modifies and continuously improves program materials in response to feedback, assessment and strategic planning; · Manages the preparation and execution of learning programs by designing training procedure manuals, guides, or course materials; · Manages the professional development budget; allocates funding to professional development subcommittees; Reports expenditures as mandated by the finance's office; · Researches and identifies additional funding sources; · Oversees the functionality and utilization of professional learning management systems; · Develops annual calendar of professional development events and programs; · Manages and develops calendars for out of district visitors; · Manages the learning resource collections; · Maintains the Division's professional development web page; · Serves as chair of the Professional Development Standing Committee; · Supervises, directs and evaluates assigned personnel; · Collaborates and connects with, builds trust with, and influences team members at all levels; · Other duties as assigned.

objectives;

· Remain strategic and analytical while diagnosing individual, team, and organizational

· Provide leadership in creating a vision for professional development for all

stakeholders;

· Demonstrate clear evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse

academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of students,

faculty, staff, and community;

· Effective teaching and learning theory and strategies;

· Adult learning theory and best practices;

· Principles of effective instructional design;

· Use technology effectively including learning management systems and instructional

technology;

· Evaluation and assessment methods;

· Operational characteristics, services, and activities of the functions, programs, and

operations of the assigned area;

· Effective visual, written, verbal, inquiry, and deep listening skills; Communicate

effectively using both oral and written communication skills; Ability to speak and

moderate on specific topics to large groups;

· Effective and engaging speaking skills that incorporate visual, written, inquiry and

listening aspects;

· Problem solving and team building;

· Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels of

the division to include administrators and teachers;

· Record-keeping and report preparation techniques;

· Supervise budget preparation and administration of budget; · Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary; · Principles and practices of effective administration, supervision and training; · Interpersonal skills, use of tact, patience and courtesy; · Problem solving and conflict resolution in an academic environment; · Modern office practices, procedures, equipment, and software applications. · Strong organizational skills; works independently to complete projects and assignments timely; · Select, supervise, train, and evaluate staff; prioritize and assign work to meet deadlines; · Ensure compliance with local, state and federal guidelines, policies, rules, and regulations.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Must possess a Master’s degree in education, human resources development, or a related

field and be eligible for a Virginia Postgraduate Professional License. Must possess

experience as a teacher and school administrator, to include some experience instructing

adults.
