Mailroom Associate

Pay Grade 4, Full-Time, Non-Exempt

 

The Mailroom Associate performs responsible and detailed administrative work delivering, preparing and processing mail, materials and supplies, including U.S. mail; keeps records and logs; does related work as required. Work is performed with minimal supervision, and operates under tight time schedules.  Essential functions include and are not limited to the following:

  • Operates a light motor vehicle to pick up, transport, and deliver U.S. postal mail, interoffice mail, materials and supplies between various County locations, and other places as designated by the Board of Supervisors and Director of Finance;
  • Sorts mail from departmental offices, Court Square complex and Emergency Communications Center;
  • Loads mail in bags; delivers materials and picks up incoming mail;
  • Drives assigned route; adapts route according to operational need;
  • Meters and prepares Federal mail for delivery to post office;
  • Orders postage; makes bank deposits;
  • Generates daily, monthly and annual reports;
  • Maintains mailing logs and related records;
  • Performs minor preventative maintenance on assigned vehicles;
  • Performs minor maintenance on mail machines and related equipment;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and at least one year of related experience. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid appropriate driver's permit issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.

 

Considerable knowledge of safety regulations, equipment operations, and supply services procedures; knowledge of streets and locations within the County and of Virginia traffic laws; knowledge of office terminology, procedures, and equipment; ability to use cell phone, computer, email, and specific software systems; ability to operate light motor vehicle safely and skillfully; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to communicate effectively with departments/personnel; ability to make arithmetic calculations; ability to maintain standard records.

 

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS AND NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS:  Involves frequent walking, lifting, climbing, bending, reaching and carrying objects weighing 12-50 pounds and driving a van, occasionally in adverse traffic conditions. Frequent operation of equipment requiring manipulative skills and hand-eye coordination. Regular contact is made with individuals from other internal organizational units.

 

SALARY:  Hiring Range: $10.00 - $12.00/per hour based on experience, education and internal equity.               

                Internal candidates will receive pay adjustments in accordance with Local Government Personnel Policy, §P-60.
