The Food Service Assistant Manager is responsible for assisting the Food Service Manager in duties and tasks.  Leads cafeteria in absence of cafeteria manager and routinely assists in management tasks.  For example in preparing inventory, food orders, guiding and participating in production, cleaning and service and in cash register procedures providing nutritional meals for students.  Essential functions include, and are not limited to the following:

  • Assisting in inventory, food orders, guiding staff in production, cash register process and deposit preparation and other operations within the cafeteria.  Assists in supervision of staff and leads staff in absence of cafeteria manager.
  • May lead or assist the Food Service Manager, with supervision procedures for the daily collection of money and completion of required reports;
  • Takes responsibility for that portion of the daily routine that the Food Service Manager assigns, including cooking, cleaning, serving and any other cafeteria duties;
  • Performs other related duties assigned by the Food Service Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Any combination of experience and education equivalent to high school graduation supplemented by business courses and at least one year of experience in quantity food preparation, preferably in a school setting.  Prior work experience in customer service and team environment preferred. 

 

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS AND NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS:  Works in cafeteria setting with kitchen, serving lines and storage areas. Extended periods of standing required. Frequent bending and lifting of food containers, food and pots weighing 10-30 pounds is required. Occasional bending and lifting up to 45 pounds of items such as cases of food. Occasional exposure of damp floors, steam from equipment and potentially caustic cleaning materials is necessary. Use of institutional kitchen equipment, such as ovens, slicers, steamers, dish machine and similar items. Daily contact with principal, school staff, teachers, parents, students and delivery person. Occasional contact is made with vendors, distributors and repair persons. 

 

SALARY:  Hiring Range:  $11.62 - $13.94/per hour based on experience and internal equity.

 Internal candidates will receive pay adjustments in accordance with County School Board Policy, GCBA-R.
