10 Months, 7.5 hours per day


The Food Service Manager I is responsible for planning, administering and evaluating an efficient operation of the school cafeteria in order to provide appealing and nutritional meals with positive customer service for the students and staff. Responsible for managing a school cafeteria within the guidelines and regulations of the National School Meal Program, State and County government and local health department. Level I-III Managers are distinguished by the number of customers served (average meal equivalents), as well as the number of employees and labor hours.  Essential functions include, and are not limited to the following:


• Opens kitchen, unlocks and checks equipment;
• Schedules employee work hours conducive to an efficient cafeteria operation;
• Gives instructions for the day's duties, written or verbal, aiding and supervising preparation of food and serving line to ensure a smooth and efficient operation
• Aids and supervises the operation of the dish machine and cleaning of the kitchen and all equipment, submitting equipment repairs and repair needs of physical building to Building Services.;
• Works with principal in carrying out County free and reduced lunch policy to include collecting and supervising collection of money from students and teachers, counting money and depositing into cafeteria account in an accurate and timely manner, and sending deposit slips weekly to Supervisor's office;
• Works with building principal to maintain smooth scheduling and operation of the School Lunch Program on site, and ensures compliance with Federal/State regulations regarding school lunch and breakfast programs;
• Keeps a perpetual inventory of food and supplies to include verifying deliveries from distributors and signing tickets, and submitting orders, inventories and copies of all delivery tickets to the Central Office monthly;
• Completes monthly reports, to include claim for reimbursement for the nations school lunch program SL 12 and SL 13, and is responsible for getting them to the Central Office on the day designated by the Food Service Supervisor;
• Completes monthly reports and is responsible for getting them to the Central Office by request, to include submitting payroll information to supervisor's office weekly and calling substitutes as needed
• Attends meetings that are scheduled by the Supervisor to include
• maintaining files of correspondence, policies, inventories and reports, selecting cafeteria employees for vacancies in cooperation with supervisor and Principals in accordance with approved personnel procedures, supervising cafeteria workers, and evaluating employees;
• Performs other related duties as required.


QUALIFICATIONS:  Any combination of experience and education equivalent to high school graduation supplemented by business courses and at least one year of experience in quantity food production, preferably in a school setting.
Knowledge of food service production and management serving a large number of customers; ability to supervise and lead others in an efficient operation and with good customer service; basic math skills; ability to count money and understand concepts of running a cash register, professional verbal and written communication; communicate and develop effective working relationships with students, parents, faculty and customers; ability to use computer and email applications.


PHYSICAL CONDITIONS AND NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS:  Works in cafeteria setting with kitchen, serving lines and storage areas. Extended periods of standing required. Frequent bending and lifting of food containers, food and pots weighing 10-30 pounds is required. Occasional bending and lifting up to 45 pounds of items such as cases of food. Occasional exposure of damp floors, steam from equipment and potentially caustic cleaning materials is necessary. Use of institutional kitchen equipment, such as ovens, slicers, steamers, dish machine and similar items. Daily contact with principal, school staff, teachers, parents, students and delivery person. Occasional contact is made with vendors, distributors and repair persons.


SALARY:  Hiring Range: $12.47 - $14.96/per hour based on qualifications, experience and internal equity.
                Internal candidates will receive pay adjustments in accordance with County School Board Policy, GCBA-R.
