GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:

 Performs imperative and complex professional and administrative work in planning, organizing, and directing the activities of the SEAD (Social Emotional and Academic Development) program of Albemarle County Public Schools. Creates an innovative environment where staff are supported in their efforts to create an environment of equity and access for all students. Team leader of the SEAD initiative is responsible for evaluating and infusing research to differentiate and personalize home, school and classroom needs of students with risk factors and students in crisis. The team leader will provide expertise in one of integral team functions.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  •  Participates as a practitioner in the SEAD program and provides leadership and management oversight for several assigned major functions of the SEAD program which include case management, identifying and prioritizing needs, and coordination of resources;
  •  Collaborates with principals in identified schools to provide seamless support for staff, students, and families;
  • Provides administrative and programmatic supervision and support to staff by coordinating, participating in, and monitoring the activities of SEAD team membersand recommends changes as needed to meet student and staff needs;
  • Provides professional learning opportunities for team development;
  • Provides collaborative leadership in workload management and ascertains work is accomplished and assures quality of work;
  • Reviews cases and uses feedback from principals and other sources to evaluate performance of staff members;
  • Gathers, monitors, and analyzes data and prepares reports and/or documentation;
  • Provides consultation regarding problems around social, emotional, and academic factors influencing decisions regarding case management and making final decisions where appropriate;
  • Establishes methods of ensuring compliance with policy, procedures and guidelines through monitoring, supervisory conference and other methods deemed appropriate;
  • Trains staff in the application of existing and new policies, procedures and guidelines; Provides clarification and guidance involving policy application;
  • Confers with school principals and the Superintendent’s cabinet and makes recommendations regarding policies and procedures;
  • Supports the team structure and process within the team;
  • Serves on teams and other work groups as needed;
  • Participates in/conducts intra-agency meetings;
  • Meets with community groups to discuss programs and resources and develops/maintains cooperative relationships with public and private entities;
  • May engage in public speaking and other media methods to promote programs;
  • Participates in interviews of applicants for employment and recommends hiring and other personnel actions such as promotion, discipline, ;
  • Does related work as needed. 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Thorough knowledge of the principles, methods, techniques and practices of school administration; thorough knowledge and experience implementing culturally responsive practices; general knowledge of supervisory principles and practices; thorough knowledge of organizational development through teams and the skill/ability to work through teams; skill in operating a computer and software; ability to analyze facts and to exercise sound judgment in arriving at conclusions; ability to delegate authority and to plan, train, and supervise professional and technical work; ability to prepare clear and concise reports; ability to communicate complex ideas effectively, orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain working relationships with clients, co-workers, staff and the general public; ability to make sound judgments, and decisions in difficult situations.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Master’s degree in human services, education, and/or related equivalent. School and / or community based experience with risk factors for equitable student access to educational opportunities and achievement.

 

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS AND NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS:

School administrative work typically performed in a school setting to include classrooms, cafeteria and recreational areas. Regular coordination with principals, teachers, and other school staff necessary. Daily liaison activity throughout the school building and grounds is necessary. Occasional attendance to school related activities throughout the state and after normal working hours is necessary. Daily contact is made with students, teachers and school administrators. Regular contact is made with parents and the community. These contacts may be non-cooperative. Regular contact is made with the school division staff.
