SOL Intervention Specialist

2016-17 School Year

Yancey Elementary 

Part-Time=2-8 hours a week

 

General Responsibilities
The function of this position is to provide support to classroom teachers in the implementation of Response to Intervention. The RTI teacher will implement strategies in direct interaction with students to ensure that all children can achieve at grade level. 


• Implements the Response to Intervention model for increasing student achievement.
• Works with the Principal, the literacy coaches and other teachers to create learning environments for all students
• Provides direct math and reading intervention instruction to students.
• Works closely with the administration and the literacy coach to ensure high fidelity implementation of the state adopted programs.
• Assists teachers in collecting data.
• Assists teachers in using data to drive instruction.
• Supports the principal in making data driven decisions about instruction.
• Establishes and maintains open communication and uses effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
• Supports collegiality and team building among staff members.
• Assists in creating a positive school climate.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

Candidates must hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching certificate with endorsement(s) covering grades K-5.  Reading Specialist preferred.


Physical Conditions and Nature of Work Contacts:

Duties performed typically in school settings to include: classroom; gym, cafeteria; auditorium; and recreational areas. Frequent walking, standing, light lifting, up to 40 pounds, and other limited physical activities are required. Occasional travel with students on field trips may be necessary. Occasional movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required. Regular Instruction to special needs children may be necessary. Occasional lifting of equipment such as audio-visuals weighing up to 50 pounds may be required. Daily personal and close contact with children to provide classroom management and learning environment support is required. Regular contact with other staff members, and parents is required. Occasional contact with medical professionals may be required. Frequent contact with parents by phone and in person is necessary.
