GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:

Performs responsible and detailed administrative work delivering and processing mail, materials and supplies. May also transports deposits to base location or supplies between various county locations. Work may be performed with little supervision under tight time schedules.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Operates a light motor vehicle to pick up, transport, and deliver mail, cafeteria deposits, supplies, materials, and/or equipment between various county locations;
  • Performs minor preventative maintenance on assigned vehicle;
  • Drives assigned route; adapts route according to operational need;
  • Sorts, indexes interoffice mail;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of safety regulations, equipment operations, and supply services procedures; knowledge of streets and locations within the County and of Virginia traffic laws; some knowledge of office terminology, procedures, and equipment; ability to use cell phone; ability to operate light motor vehicle safely and skillfully; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to communicate effectively with departments/personnel.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination of education experience equivalent to completion of high school and some related experience. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Satisfactory health condition as certified by competent medical authority. Possession of a valid appropriate driver's permit issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.


PHYSICAL CONDITIONS AND NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS:

Involves frequent walking, lifting, climbing, bending, reaching and carrying objects weighing up to 40 pounds and driving a county vehicle, occasionally in adverse traffic conditions. Frequent operation of equipment requiring manipulative skills and hand-eye coordination. Regular contact is made with individuals from other internal organizational units. Must be available to work with a tight time schedule.

Performance will be evaluated on ability and effectiveness in carrying out the above responsibilities.
